Is the squeak from wood rubbing on wood, or wood rubbing on metal? I’ve used candle wax on the metal pole that the wooden arms of my warping mill rotate on. I heated up the metal with a heat gun, then melted wax onto the pole, and reinserted it into the wooden arms. It works well, but needs to be reapplied sometimes.

My mil is horizontal though, so your mileage may vary

You can use paraffin wax, paste wax, or silicone spray to lubricate moving wood parts. You don’t want to use WD40 as that will eventually make it stick more rather than less.

I find, particularly for wood on wood or wood on metal squeak, that a small sliver of soap works quite well. It is easy to apply and creates no sticky mess. My first loom, an old 4S/6T folding Harrisville loom developed squeaks from the wooden pulleys gliding on the metal rods.

That said, I could use some help. With my Glimakra Ideal counterbalance loom (a 50 year old), I have a squeak that seems to be coming from one of the counterbalance pulleys . Has anybody encountered that before? I’m not sure the soap trick is usable because I cannot reach the rod on which is turns.
