  • Queen Anne’s Lace as weft

Posted by Christine Hanson on February 1, 2024 at 10:55 am

I am looking forward to designing a twill draft using Janet’s design method from her class. I plan to use 8/2 cotton since I have a lot and want to use it up designing stripes in the warp. I also have some Queen Anne’s Lace that I would like to use as weft. Now I am concerned that the texture of the Queen Anne’s Lace will mess with the twill pattern too much. I like the texture it gives towels. Is the Queen Anne’s Lace a bad decision?

Could you include a picture of the yarn? I looked online and it appears there’s more than one Queen Anne’s Lace yarn.

Depends on the twill. If it’s a simple progression it won’t obscure that too much. I probably wouldn’t use it for something ‘fancy’ as the design would be obscured by the texture.

That is what I was thinking Laura! It is my opportunity to design a twill for the first time. I can make it more simple and just see how it goes. If it doesn’t work I can just use a different weft. Thanks so much!

Thank you for this topic Christine. I have some cones of this from a stash that was given to me and have wondered what to do with it. Wondering if it would work to use it for the pattern in overshot. Guessing sampling would be the answer.

You are right! I have used it as a weft with 8/2 in plain weave. I love the hand of the cloth it produces. It worked great for dishtowels.

I am really curious about overshot! I would love to know how that goes for you.

      Thank you!
