What have the Peer Support sessions done for you?

The Peer Support is invaluable for me! At a time when I was isolated it was a way to connect – and with other weavers with similar interests to me. There are times I am not aware of a question till someone else asks it and I realise I’d had the same question. It’s a comfort to know there is someone there who can help if I have a problem that is insurmountable to me but who has superior knowledge. No other website offers live face to face interaction. This is what makes the Academy unique. I have received advice that has saved projects.

I agree with what Dayamitra said. Sometimes it’s a small piece of advice, sometimes bigger. I appreciate learning from other weavers, and I really like the sense of community I get. Sometimes I feel pretty isolated–I really don’t have a local weaving community I can ask questions when I don’t know what to do. The Peer Support sessions provide that support and community.

I am also a little isolated and without a weaving community. The Peer Supports give a place for me to ask questions and benefit from other weaver’s experience. I also think I learn unexpected things at times that are so handy to know.

Ditto! For me, the peer support group has done two major things. First, I pick up all sorts of little tricks and tips that I hadn’t thought of, and I use many of them now. Second, I enjoy the community. I miss the active guilds where I used to live, and the peer groups (and forums) help to give me some of what I have missed. I absolutely love seeing the faces and talking directly with Academy members whose names and work and ideas I have seen in the classes and forums. I feel as if I have a whole new set of friends with shared interests, who inspire me with their amazing ideas and creative spirits. I am grateful for all of the members who participate in these sessions!

The Peer Support sessions are helpful for picking up tips and tricks that I can incorporate as I am weaving. The community and putting name and faces is great as well! Ditto to much of what has been said as well!! The uniqueness of the Academy and the resources and opportunities it offers are amazing!

I agree 100% with the everyone’s comments!
I wish more folks would attend so we could hear their stories, see their projects and help them with tips and ideas. Kathy (and Dawn) are great moderators and make everyone feel comfortable. No need to have your camera or mic on (although I also love to see faces with names), so you don’t need to feel self-conscience. Maybe if they read this thread, they’ll join in. There’s lots of fun to be had!

I am going to let you in on a little secret……the moderators of these sessions love them just as much as you do!
I look forward to these meetings every time, and I always learn something new!

Although I don’t attend regularly, I enjoy participating in the Peer Support sessions. As people have said, it is fun to see faces, get feedback from other weavers, and just talk weaving.

I echo all the above comments. Unfortunately, I can’t attend regularly but really appreciate the technical and artistic information that is shared when I am able to tune in. For me, it takes courage to speak up and share, so the friendly community is important to me. Thanks for everything to everyone who attends and run the sessions. They are great.

I’m guilty of going to Peer Support when I have a problem. And I always get a viable solution to whatever the problem is. So if you are thinking about ditching them — DON’T!

“guilty”?? That’s exactly what Peer Support is for!
