If you look where the break is, you an see that the thread at the top of the “arrow” that is threaded 1 2 3 4 3 2 1 has been changed from shaft 4 to shaft 5.

You likely clicked on it mistakenly, which I do pretty often.

I am not seeing it Kathy, at the very top in the treadling it goes 1-7 to 1 then I changed to 7 to 3 to 7 making a short Vand the break is there I think. but no matter what I do to change it, it’s still there.

huh, I just realized there are 8 shafts and only 7 treadles. The tie-up is bad. Look! I did add the WIF to the post. I am planning on being at the meeting this evening.

The more I play the more it changes. After another 30 min of play, it’s different maybe I should go back to the first one with both parts l like.

Well, I tried to see what was happening with this draft, but either it is meant to be ‘unbalanced’ or there is a mistake (or several).

That said, if you like what you see, no worries. But I did find the thread on 5 when it looks like it should be on 4, so that one is an ‘easy’ fix. The others, I’d have to completely re-do the tie up and treadling to resolve the issues. Unless, like I say, those ‘breaks’ in the twill diagonals were the feature, not a bug.

While I was reading Kathy’s reply, I noticed that I had only 7 T in the ties up, and its threaded on 8 shafts, shaft 8 was not being lifted at all. lol I played some more, I may go back to my original draft. lol. I don’t know what I am doing, I am just playing. I am not ready to make my own drafts. but I can change someone else draft. Not yet.

Actually, 8 shafts are indicated in the draft. There are only 7 treadles, so the twill lines have ‘breaks’ in them.

Given all the…discrepancies…in terms of twill lines not meeting up/matching, I can’t help but think it is all being done on purpose. Perhaps to shorten float lengths, or just because whoever designed this wanted more visual texture, or something.

However, there is still that one thread that is on the wrong shaft, as Kathy pointed out. I think that must be a mistake. Just my take on it…

Laura, the designer was me. lol it developed over hours of playing that started in the twill generator. Once I had something cool I moved to Fiberworks, and Tempo weave.

:) Well, you included all 8 shafts in your tie up, but perhaps forgot to include an 8th treadle? (been there done that…)

I will have to get into it again, I am preparing for a class in parallel threading, with a painted warp. Actually, I painted 2 warps to be beamed as one, halfway done with the threading, I will send ya pics when it’s not so messy, lol I wish I could warp as beautifully as you do.

Your tie-up isn’t square: you’ve got a 3/2/1/2 twill tieup, but the treadle that starts with 3 tied is missing. That’s why there’s a break whenever you wrap from T7 to T1 or vice versa.

I’m not sure if that’s the break you’re talking about, or if it’s something in the threading – it looks like the point that your cursor/insertion point is on when the screenshot was made is one shaft too high.

@janet I did notice, a place where in the treading, I had moved a thread and moved it back all but one, Laura and Kathy both see a 4 that should be a 5 but I don’t see it. Probably because I have stared at it so long. I can play with the treading, but I am confused. I think when I realized there were not 8 treadles tied up I tossed in a shaft on 8 to make it work. Where should I be reading to get the grasp of what your all saying. this is the only think I dislike about on line learning, I can not pick up the phone and say help me understand.

This all started with the twill generator, I put in info and played a long while and got the first draft, with diamonds in the center, you pointed out a diamond on one side and not on the other, and I never put it in, in fact totally forgot about when I went back to work on it. I played with the treadling, and made some really interesting designs on the diamond section, but the other design, did not like it to well so I took out the diamonds and started playing, I was really having a grand time changing this and doing this, until I could not get rid of the line. Laura says its unbalanced, …..Ok what do i have to do to make it balanced ,,,,,,,,,start over, put in another thread, take out a thread, change the treadling, What is balanced?

Now I will admit I have a million and one maybe a billion and two, things going on in my brain, parallel threading, rugs, painted warps, and dying my weft, bound weave, double weave, making a blanket , 3 weddings from March to August. LOL At my age I have a sense of urgency for every thing right now. Not enough hours in a day or week or month. Thanks Janet.

The tie-ups in both versions are the same, except that the leftmost treadle from the first version is missing from the second. If you add that treadle back and change the points to use all 8 treadles wherever they currently “fall off” the left side and wrap around to the right or vice versa, the horizontal breaks should disappear.

If you attach the .wif to this thread (you can use the attach file icon in the same row of icons as attach picture or insert emoji just below the text) I can show you what I’m talking about.
