After taking one of Tien’s color classes (I think it was Gorgeous Gradients), I decided I would weave red and green napkins in 20/2 cotton and not have them turn into a brown blob. I found a draft on Handweaving.net (#79305), and used 3 values of green in the warp and 3 values of red in the weft (and threw in a shot of yellow in a few). I also wove with other colors (3 values of blue, purple, gold, and yellow). I think I was successful–you can see the red and green at a distance from which you would view a napkin, and all show nice irridesence.

Nice. :) I’m sure the napkins will be well used during the holidays.

Sheila these are lovely. I am so jealous of extra shafts. I really love the one that is kinda a lime green. Just gorgeous.

These are only 8 shafts and 8 treadles! A simple point threading and point treadling with a nifty tie-up.

Very pretty! What EPI/PPI did you use? I’m always afraid 20/2 will be too light for napkins, but these look wonderful.

I started weaving these a couple of years ago, so I’m not sure but I think it was 45 epi (I know I was using my 15-dent reed, and I don’t think it was 30 or 60 epi), and I tried to get the same ppi. They really are nice (tried one of them out the other day).

Well done! Glad you considered viewing distance – it makes a huge difference in color blending.

I do notice looking at the photos that the red/green ones are not as bright as the others, but I still see red and green when I’m sitting at the table with them. You’ve taught me a lot about color in weaving!
